Grammy-nominated performance artists Blue Man Group were set to play at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s homecoming concert in two weeks, but abruptly cancelled when they found out that the university does not use the color blue.

When the group read a 2015 DailyER article about UNL’s changing of school colors from red to blue, they wanted to put up a performance to celebrate the occasion.

“Yeah, we were very excited to perform at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, but were embarrassed to find out that what we read was only satire,” said Blue Man Group co-founder Matt Goldman.

Blue Man Group’s upcoming tour will be making stops exclusively at universities that have blue as one of their school colors. UNL would have been one of the stops that alongside the University of Michigan, University of Kansas, Brigham Young University, and University of North Carolina.

Though the group backed out, UNL students will still get a chance to see popular musical acts this semester.

“We’ve been in contact with bands on the ‘Red’ tour, so expect to see some red-themed bands to stop by soon,”  said UPC events coordinator Jim Beck. Bands on this tour will include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, August Burns Red and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Those who want to see Blue Man Group will still get a chance to in Omaha.

“We hear that Creighton University, which is like a 45-minute drive away from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, does have blue as one of their school colors. We’re going to be playing there instead, so Nebraska students will still get a chance to see us,” Goldman said.
