NBA Commissioner Cancels Rest Of Regular Season

Claiming that he just couldn’t wait another day, David Stern announced he was canceling the rest of the NBA’s regular season so that the playoffs could start right away.

“We just finished figuring out how the playoffs would play out and I just couldn’t wait until April to show you guys, the fans,” Stern said.

“I mean, the plays we set up for LeBron James, including making him play the Cavs in the first round, it’s just gonna make for some truly sensational games. This is definitely the best playoffs I’ve ever written in my 25 years.”

While the news came as a surprise to many, most were pretty happy with the announcement.

“We all knew who was going to make it and could basically tell what seeds they would be. Overall, this is probably the best move Stern has made as commissioner,” NBA beat writer Adrian Wojnarowski said.

NBA players were overjoyed to hear the news as it shortens their season without shortening their paychecks.

“I’m super glad I get to play less games and get to the same result. It gets really boring knowing exactly what is going to happen in the regular season but when it comes to knowing what’s going to happen in the playoffs that is always more fun,” Kobe Bryant said.

“I heard there is a first round match-up between the Cavs and the Heat. How will James be against his own team in the playoffs? Well, I know the answer but the fans don’t, so keep watching.”

Team Owners, ESPN and TNT approached the deal with apprehension as a shortened regular season would normally mean less profits but David Stern reassured them as well, announcing that instead of Best-of-seven series for all four rounds there would now be Best-of-21 series and no series game would be played two days in a row.

“The playoffs could very well go into July 2011. They will be long, but everyday will bring great new surprises and great plays,” Stern said.“So keep watching, you’ll never guess the ending.”
