Located in downtown Chicago, Lollapalooza is a weekend packed full of some of the best in hip-hop, electronic, and alternative music. 70 bands take over five different stages for the first weekend in August, with even more after shows and performances in downtown Chicago hotels. Currently, the cheapest way to find yourself at Lollapalooza 2014 is an $1800 travel package, as general admission tickets are sold out. However, Lollapalooza is still offering a Throwback Thursday contest to win tickets, so there may be a chance to make it to one of the best festivals of the summer.

Among the top EDM festivals in the world, Electronic Daisy Carnival otherwise know as EDC is the mecca for the dance music scene in the United States. Drawing in crowds of upwards of 250,000 bubbly outgoing ravers, EDC starts with four smaller festivals, this year hosted in New York, Mexico, the UK, and Orlando, before the grand finale festival in Vegas. This year EDC Vegas sold out with the lineup still unannounced. Along with the extravagantly dressed gogo dancers roaming the crowds, the carnival rides, and the fantasyland surroundings, EDC hosts the biggest and best artists of the electronic dance music genre placing it at the top of any bucket list.

Wisconsin residents (or festival goers driving through Wisconsin), can also buy a $70 11-day pass, making this festival one to definitely consider. Featuring some of the best in country, rock, and hip-hop, Summerfest is one festival everyone should check out this year.

With affordable tickets and a reasonable drive to Chicago, the Pitchfork Music Festival is one you should keep on your radar.

With a wide variety of genres and over 100 bands, Summercamp is sure to have something for everyone.

Located on the gorgeous beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, the Hangout Music Festival is one of the best ways to start off your summer. Featuring over 70 bands, the three-day festival basically becomes one giant beach party with 35,000 people. Located right next to the Florida border, the festival is easy to reach, and condos can be rented within walking distance of the festival. There are lots of great ways to kickoff your summer, but few are as good as Hangout.
