Criterion announces Huskers 94-97 reissue

The Criterion Collection, known for restoring and restyling older films, has decided to do something a little different for their December releases this year. For the first time ever, the collection will target the nostalgic Nebraska sports fan with the release of the “Huskers 94-97 Edition.”

The 4-disc, multi-format set, sold at retail for $99, is a must-have for any serious collector. The set comes with every game from the 1994-1997 seasons, interviews with players and coaches, deleted scenes, bloopers and an alternate ending to the 1996 Big 12 championship game versus Texas.

In an email sent to subscribers, Criterion hailed the project as “revolutionary” for the company and said they hope this will be a springboard for other sports-related ventures.

“This disc set will change the way fans see the games they saw decades ago. The ’90s Huskers are one of the iconic teams of all time, and this collection will give a new eye as to how great they were.”

It’s still not clear how the Criterion set will differ from a production like 30 for 30 or even old reruns on the Big Ten Network, but at least we know that its owners will bleed the purest form of Husker red, and it will have a cool cover on it.
