When a dozen people stood at the corner of 8th and A Street today, the last thing they expected to see happen, happened.
The group stood in awe as student John Anderson walked across the street– before the walk sign turned on.
“I didn’t know what was happening,” said Kevin Richards, one of the witnesses. “I was like, ‘Maybe he just didn’t see it.’ But I saw him. He stared at that light. He knew what he did.”
A few of the witnesses claimed that Anderson “didn’t even look for oncoming traffic.”
“We just stood there,” Carolyn Baker said. “Being the sheeple we are, we were powerless to cross. That kid had spirit.”
Despite being eyed by looks of astonishment, Anderson maintained his composure and finished his dangerous trek across the street.
“There was a car a couple blocks down coming,” Frank Wilson said. “I wasn’t sure he was going to make it. I could’ve sworn he’d be dead before he reached the other side.”
When the light turned from the hand sign to the walk sign, Anderson had nearly reached the other side. Bystanders froze where they stood, shocked by the events that just occurred.
“I aspire to be him,” Devin King said after witnessing the feat. “We saw true bravery that day. He stood in the face of danger and didn’t bat an eye. God bless him.”
When asked for a comment, Anderson declined.
