After weeks of hearing coaches talk about which quarterbacks were going to “step up and lead,” Rex Burkhead couldn’t take it anymore.
“I kept hearing the coaches yelling at the quarterbacks and telling them to ‘lead by example,’ and I couldn’t take it anymore. I just walked right up to coach Beck and told him I was going to be the leader. He just accepted it,” Burkhead said.
“I think he was waiting for me to do that the whole time. He knew none of them were capable of actually leading an entire offense.”
When asked what this meant for Nebraska’s offense, Burkhead stated that it probably meant he’d have to run the wildcat “like 50 fucking times a game again. Nothing ever changes in this damn place.”
