Fans of the American rock band “Jimmy Eat World” rejoiced when the group released a previously-thought lost TMZ interview with the also previously-thought lost members discussing their current place in the world of music. After releasing their ninth album in 2016, many were surprised that the band had made that much content, let alone create anything other than their hit single, “The Middle.”
“I just read their Wikipedia article and it turns out they’re still together?? lol wut,” posted user kornfan2001 on the formerly inactive “Jimmy Eat World” fan-forum “Eaterz.” This was the breadth of knowledge that a majority of “Jimmy Eat World” fans had up until the recently released TMZ interview.
In the interview, band members are seen discussing the history of their group and the process of how they make their music, and repeatedly remind the TMZ interviewer why they’re there. But the most inspiring moment of the interview takes place around half-way through when lead guitar man Jim Adkins talks about their band’s name.
“Yeah… me and the other guys… we were just talking and we said, ‘You know what would be a REALLY dumb name for a band? Jimmy Eat World.’ And everyone laughed, you know? Not because of the drugs. I don’t think. But uh… it’s still kinda funny. I definitely didn’t think we would get this far, just because, you know, certain reasons, but at the end of the day at least I’ve been able to pay my child support fees because of this gig.”
Fans of “Jimmy Eat World” were filled with optimism. Dozens of tweets were made by supporters praising Adkins over his heartwarming statement of tenacity.
“Damn, this guy’s been at it for like 30 years and he still doesn’t completely hate that dumb name? #respect,” posted user imonlymoominafterall in the forum.
Maybe, just maybe, “Jimmy Eat World’s” mainstream comeback will finally happen. In this day and age, just about anything could occur.
