Wednesday night at the Bourbon provided the audience a vast taste of local and national music. The shows kicked off with Minneapolis native Jeremy Messersmith. With only a cellist and drummer to back him up, Messersmith gave the audience a very intimate showcasing of his music, and even though he is the opening act, you can tell this is not his first show. He carries himself with a sarcastic, confident attitude that translates through the audience. With songs about love, one-night-stands, and reddit, Messersmith provided a great opening to the show.
A headlining act of Lincoln Calling, Boy, lives up to the standard of its title. The Swiss/German pop group has this infectious charm that will not go away during the concert. The lead singer, Valeska Steiner, who sounds like an alternative version of Sara Bareilles, is so genially sweet that it often spreads throughout the crowd. Every song is lively and upbeat provides with style all to their own. With six people in the band that can play multiple instruments, they are allowed to be as creatively free with their performance as possible. After this knockout performance, Boy will probably be the highlight of Lincoln Calling, and if they ever decide to come to Lincoln again, you should definitely check them out.
Wednesday was a happily competitive day of shows between The Bourbon, Duffy’s and Zoo Bar particularly. Look for more reviews on our website. And view the entire Lincoln Calling guide and schedule here: http://seedsent.com/lincoln-calling-2013-informational-guide/
