Facebook is rolling out a new feature which will allow its users to “like” likes, the social networking website announced Monday.
“People who like Facebook have always liked our ‘like’ feature,” said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “and we think they’ll like ‘liking’ likes even more.”
Preliminary screenshots show the site will add a small “like” button below the “like” icon of each user’s “like” on every status, comment and photo. The button will give users a new way to express their appreciation of someone else’s appreciation of a piece of online content.
While the feature is not yet available to all users, people who have tried the new button say they like it.
“My friend Stephanie posted a new photo, and I liked it, so I clicked ‘like,’” reported Facebook user Jessica Kowalski. “But I didn’t know if she liked that I liked it.”
“When I got a notification saying that Stephanie liked my like, I was, like, so happy. I liked her like of my like right away.”
Zuckerberg said the new feature is just the first step in Facebook’s quest for total “like” immersion.
“Next month, we’ll be changing the site’s name to ‘Likebook,’” Zuckerberg revealed. “Then, we’ll put a like button on each individual character, pixel and HTML element, providing users with unprecedented access to the world’s ‘liking’ infrastructure.”
Sources told The DailyER that Zuckerberg had recently filed paperwork to legally change his name to “Mike Likerberg.”
