New Health Center Pizza Express Opens Doors to Sick, Hungry Student Body

Next month, students can expect a new University of Nebraska-Lincoln facility to revolutionize on-campus student health care.

The Health Center Pizza Express (HCPX), opening its doors at the beginning of November for all current students, will offer a range of services from x-ray exams and STD testing to fast and affordable hot-and-ready pizza and breadsticks.

Jennifer Tuttle, a nurse and line cook at the HCPX, was excited for the new opportunities that students would have next month.

“The Health Center has long been known as a place where students can pick up free condoms and toothpaste. Now, they can grab a hot slice while they’re at it.”

However, not everyone has been pleased with some of the cuts made for the HCPX. In order to make room for the required pizza ovens and storage space, UNL has announced that the Health Center will be closing its Counseling and Psychological Services department. Thomas Jensen, a current student and patient with the CAPS program, expressed his disapproval at this decision.

“I usually only go to the Health Center to talk to a counselor about my social anxiety,” Jensen said. “So I am a little apprehensive that they’ll be discontinuing that service.”

“I would like a pizza but I wish I wasn’t depressed,” Jensen said.

Jane Washington, the facility’s manager and coordinator, spoke at length with DailyER reporters on what students could expect from the new facilities.

“Here at the Health Center Pizza Express, we will strive to give students the best health care and pizza available.”

When asked about the future of the HCPX, Washington stressed the importance of remaining competitive with the regular Health Center that students have known for years.

“Hopefully, within a few years, the campus won’t even need a normal Health Center anymore and they can demolish that sorry excuse for a clinic and build a parking lot.”
