The “Discover Weekly” feature on Spotify serves users every Monday by presenting fresh, new music to add to their playlists and saved songs. Students in higher education especially benefit from the regular dose of unfamiliar tunes tailored to their current tastes, as college can create an unsatisfying life of monotony.
While browsing through his “Discover Weekly” playlist during a class lecture, sophomore Chad Aglet came across a great sound he’d never heard before: Stevie Nicks’ voice. Her words were, as Aglet put it “flooding through my beats like an unknown and beautiful river.” Aglet was listening to “The Chain” from the 1977 album “Rumours.”
“It’s different from anything I’d heard before. How is this band not mainstream?!” he rhetorically asked our DailyER correspondent.
Aglet went on to listen to the rest of the album, proclaiming its relevance. Under his handle @notlikeotherboys, Aglet said, “Hot take: Rumours by Fleetwood Mac is the most underrated album of all time, period!”
He then replied to his own tweet with his second account @musicisthekeytothesoul, saying, “Never heard of them! I’ll give em a listen!”
Aglet then replied to his own reply with, “Yes, and for some background info, they are a really obscure band from the 70’s…”
The DailyER contacted Aglet’s mother, Cheryl, for a comment. After we shared Chad’s tweets with her, she said, “What the actual hell! I tried to get that kid to listen to that band for 19 years! I literally have all of their records. Gawd, what a poser.”
Aglet has vowed to continue to listen to the band despite the criticisms from his mother, history of rock professor, and girlfriend, I mean ex-girlfriend. At the moment, he is chatting with the cashier at Barnes and Noble about how pleasantly surprised he is that they have several of the band’s records for sale.
He said, “This must be a really low-key, underground joint, huh?”
