To say that Alabama Shakes’ sophomore album is anticipated is an understatement. The four-piece, led by the powerful alto voice of Brittany Howard, made waves in the desert of soulful, southern rock back in 2012 with “Boys & Girls,” but according to the The Rolling Stone, fans shouldn’t expect “Vol. II”. The band is experimenting with a new and more confident sound that will deliver an unexpected but welcome album later this year.

Jack White’s first solo album “Blunderbuss” came out almost exactly two years ago. “Blunderbuss’” supporting tour involved both an all male and an all female band, of which White would choose one band to play with the day of the concert. That, along with another year of experimenting at his Third Man Records in Nashville c an assure his upcoming album “Lazaretto” out June 10th will be something special.

Kendrick Lamar released his highly acclaimed “good kid, m.A.A.d. city” in October of 2012. Since then, he has appeared on other artists’ tracks and made enemies with Drake after his verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” You can probably expect Kendrick Lamar to address the issue no holds barred in his upcoming and yet-to-be-titled album, which is set to drop in September.

After his breakthrough release of “Channel Orange” in 2012, hype for Frank Ocean’s second album was already steadily growing. Although there is no scheduled drop date, Ocean has confirmed to several sources that his “next thing” will release this coming summer. If his second album is anything like the single released back in March with Diplo, and the Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, it’s sure to be as gorgeous as his first. With his contagious R&B grooves and poetic lyric s, it’s getting difficult to stay patient for the release, but fear not, and keep an eye out for Frank this summer.

Kanye’s been very secretive about his follow up to “Yeezus,” but there are some details he’s released. The album will be eight songs long,  produced by returning “Yeezus” producer Rick Rubin and A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip, and sound completely different than its predecessor. Teasing his fans with comparisons to Springsteen, Otis Redding and Mobb Deep, his as yet untitled album should represent the next evolution as Kanye again reinvents himself and possibly adjusts to life as a father.

After the success of their 20 y”), and Best Rock Album, the Keys are back with a new album to be released on May 12th. This brother duo has been killing it in the rock industry ever since their breakthrough album, “Brothers,” released back in 2010 with the hit song “Tighten Up.” Their upcoming album, “Turn Blue,” can be expected to have some of the familiar jazzy, psychedelic instrumentals (clearl y present in their single “Fever,” released on March 24 this year), but with a back bone of heavy rock ‘n roll beats.

We don’t know much about Adele’s third album, other than the fact that it’s supposed to come out sometime in 2014. She’s said that one of the tracks is “quite upbeat,” and “a real girl-power type of song,” which, along with Lily Allen’s “Sheezus,” gets me excited for a summer of strong women. Artists said to be collaborating with the new mother include Phil Collins, Kid Harpoon, and James Ford. The world is Adele’s oyster, so we can look forward to songs that are a little more about love and a little less about heartbreak on this album.

Since their last two albums, Fleet Foxes have established themselves as a definitive folk-rock group. With the release of their upcoming album, the Foxes will hopefully capitalize on past success while incorporating new ideas and musical sequences to go about and give their music a refreshing restart since their 2011 release.

Not a lot is known yet about this follow-up to 2011’s “I’m With You,” except that the band is already writing new content for the album. However, with how much energy the Red Hot Chili Peppers still have 25 years after the release of their first album “Mother’s Milk,” expect this new album to be funky, full of energy, and maybe involving a tube sock or two.

How has this band been around for 15 years now? Many bands fizzle after so long, but Death Cab for Cutie seem to keep making interesting albums. However you feel about DCFC, you have to appreciate their resilience to keep playing music while being able to reinvent themselves with each upcoming album as they are expected to do with this year’s release.

Lily Allen’s first album in five years is, in typical cheeky Lily Allen style, titled “Sheezus.” Though it does not promise to be as in-your-face as 2009’s “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” much of Lily Allen’s artistic style looks to remain the same. Judging from the video of the single “Our Time,” Allen’s third album will be irreverent, fun, and all about girl power.

After four short years, the electro-funk duo, Chromeo, has created their fourth studio album. Set to release this May, the new album “White Women,” will showcase contributions from several brilliant musicians including Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem, and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. The few songs the group has pre-released, provide a hopeful glimpse into the unique synth-pop sounds that Chromeo fans will surely expect and enjoy from the rest of the album.

May 13 is the confirmed release date for Little Dragon’s latest album, “Nabuma Rubberband.” Hailing from Sweden, this experimental synthpop quartet has packed their new album with a mix of slower jams, zombies, and an essence of floating with Janet Jackson. Although it has a chiller vibe than usual, Little Dragon will still cater their ‘get up and dance’ feels for your upcoming summer.

Interpol’s formed around the turn of the century and their sound is reflective by that, marked by left-over 90s zombie-like vocals and early 2000s crisp, solid rock. Interpol compares to modern day The National but has maintained their individuality for the past 17 years. The peak of the band came to them around 2002-2005 with albums “Antics” and “Turn on the Bright Lights.” Their most recent album, self-titled and released four years ago, stayed fairly true to their trademark clean, sharp, dark sound. It will be interesting to see how this band does it again for the fifth time.
