It has been a long couple of weeks for sophomore Stephen Daniels. Since the release of “American Sniper”, the patriotic general studies major has been constantly fighting back criticism of his hero, Chris Kyle. The storm of criticism surrounding the Clint Eastwood production has been “disheartening”, Daniels admits.
“It’s really hard to understand how someone can hate their country this much,” he said, “Chris Kyle fought for their freedom against those terrorists, and they don’t even appreciate it.” Daniels was especially distraught over the comments made by filmmaker Michael Moore and actor Seth Rogen.
“When I saw someone post those quotes on Facebook, I had to step outside and take a breath of fresh air,” Daniels remembers. When he came back inside, his path was clear. Daniels decided that “It was time someone got the truth out there.”
What happened next was something that Daniels will remember for quite some time. In the comments, Daniels stepped up to bat for Kyle. “I just got caught up in the passion of the moment,” recalls Daniels. “Not only the passion of my love for Kyle, but also my love of the United States.”
The heroic patriot, on fire with love for his country, posted a reply that silenced the opposition: “sorry ur 2 big of a liberal gaylord 2 love ur country”.
After this dense outpouring of potent rhetoric, Daniels broke down. Amidst his sobs, Daniels had a moment of clarity. “I knew, deep inside, that what I was doing was right,” Daniels says.
“Never again would someone trash Chris Kyle if I could help it.”
