After watching a series of graphically violent online videos, sophomore Joshua Pryce felt like it was time for his friends to know the truth about him: he has a “way darker” sense of humor than anyone he knows.
“My friends tried to get me to watch ‘Human Centipede,” but I was really bored,” Pryce said. “It wasn’t nearly as funny as ‘A Clockwork Orange.’”
Pryce said his edgy sense of humor started around middle school, when he would recite dead baby jokes to his friends. He slowly evolved, and soon enough he was screaming profanity and slurs over Xbox Live.
“I just really wanted to push people’s buttons,” Pryce said. “I got pissed when my parents took my Xbox away for no reason.”
His mother, Cynthia Foster-Pryce, recalled the reason.
“He showed up at the church’s bake sale and yelled ‘God is dead, sheeple’ over and over again,” Foster-Pryce said. “I don’t even know what that means, but I knew it was bad.”
From there, Pryce’s humor has only gotten more deranged. He is active on the popular website Reddit, but he’ll only go on the “really messed up” topics ranging from “gore” to “morbid reality.”
Pryce said that his friends love his demented sense of humor, even though they aren’t as “totally fucked in the head” as he is.
“Yeah, we kind of let him tag along with us and do his thing,” said Sam Williams, Pryce’s best friend. “He usually doesn’t bother us, he just hangs out in the corner of the room.”
Currently, Pryce is organizing a Fight Club after being inspired by watching the movie over 50 times. So far, there is only one member.
“I really related to Tyler Durden in the movie,” Pryce said. “After all, I’m just like him. So I wanted to make a club where anarchists can hang out. I’ve never been in a fight though.”
Going forward, Pryce plans to spend his time between making fun of people with disabilities and preaching whatever comes to his “twisted” mind in the Nebraska Union.
“You can’t be afraid of reality,” Pryce said. “People just don’t want to face the truth.”
