In a rare turn of events, former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has agreed to a deal with the Lincoln Haymakers of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. Just weeks after being cut by the New England Patriots and being denied another year of eligibility at the University of Florida, the Haymakers and Tebow finalized a two year deal.
Since being drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos, Tebow has struggled to define himself as an NFL starting quarterback, and even after winning a playoff game for Denver, he was outcast by not only the Broncos but also the New York Jets and Patriots.
Tebow over the years has been known to have an infectious personality and a positive outlook on life, but somehow he just cannot find anything positive in the new contract with the Haymakers.
“Two years ago I was playing under the brightest light in America, in front of tens of thousands or people shouting my name, now I’m playing for the fourth worst team in the indoor football league. The Omaha Beef did not even want me! Would you be happy in my situation?” he said.
Even though Tebow is the most high-profile signing in Haymakers history, head coach Trever Whiting has not determined yet if he will be the opening day starter.
“We have an experienced quarterback in Darron Thomas and don’t want to hand the offense over to some Jesusfreak,” stated coach Whiting, “We will see how it plays out week to week.”
Thomas, a former quarterback for the Oregon Ducks who lead his team to the BCS National Championship, stated when asked if he was worried about losing his starting job to Tebow, “he couldn’t win the starting job for the Jets, so what the hell do I have to worry about?”
