If you thought college at UNL was dull and drab, well are you in for a treat! The University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced this week that a new subscription-based schooling system called UNL+ will be launching this fall.
“This is an incredible new chapter for the University of Nebraska,” said Chancellor Ronnie Greene, in a statement announcing the new subscription service. “We have the opportunity to create and deliver incredible new content to our loyal subscribers.”
Chancellor Greene announced UNL+ will launch at the beginning of the fall 2021 semester and will cost students just $2,999.99 a month, on top of normal tuition costs and fees. Some of the features of UNL+ include access to exclusive lectures that will explain more material on the exam than normal lectures, entry to subscriber-only dining halls on campus, as well as a free UNL+ shirt and water bottle.
The buzz about UNL+ has been rapidly spreading around campus.
“I’m signing up as soon as I can,” said sophomore Grassland Systems major Stan Merritt. “Every day is the same here at UNL. Show up to class to learn the same stuff. Sit next to the same people. Hang out at the same places. I’m ready for something new and something exciting, which I believe UNL+ will offer.”
While many students loved the idea of access to exclusive content at an affordable monthly subscription fee, other students were on board for different reasons.
“I’ve heard the schpiel a thousand times,” said junior Medieval and Renaissance Studies major Laurence McClain. “Exclusive content this, early access that. It’s all a marketing ploy, really. But I still signed up. Do you want to know why? Free t-shirt! I’d do anything for a free t-shirt. Hell, I even got a water bottle out of it, too. Maybe that will help me to drink more water!”
Chancellor Greene confirmed in his press conference that UNL will begin developing several miniseries and movies exclusive to UNL+, including a revitalization of Harvey Perlman’s hit series Perls of Knowledge.
