Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Maurice Washington is officially being charged with the possession of child pornography and distributing revenge porn in the state of California. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Department first learned that Washington was under investigation last September.
“Washing-who? I’ve never heard that name before in my life,” said the befuddled UNL Director of Athletics Bill Moos. “UNL has never had a student by the name of ‘Washington’ before in its 150 years — let alone a football player.”
When California officials reached out to Moos to inform him of the warrant out for Washington’s arrest, Moos released a second statement on behalf of the university.
“Oh, that Washington. Yes, we are aware of that Washington’s existence. We’re being told he’s a student at our university, a good kid even,” Moos said. “However, these accusations being held against him are of no concern as we’ve been told they couldn’t possibly be considered criminal.”
Shortly after stories had been released of the particulars of the case against Washington, Moos released yet another statement on behalf of the university.
“Child pornography is bad? This is news to us, I assure you,” Moos said. “We still aren’t quite sure why there’s an uproar over this whole ‘revenge porn’ debacle though. Isn’t that just some ‘80’s Stallone action flick?”
Confused, Moos reportedly reached out to good friend and former Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning for clarification.
“Jonny just told me not to worry about it,” Moos said. “That, in the good state of Nebraska, we don’t tear down the careers of young men who make harmless mistakes.”
Bruning could not be reached for comment but was reportedly seen fleeing Moos’ office in disbelief after learning other states actually care about victims.
