In a statement last week, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green announced that the university will be devoting many of its limited resources to create the Big Ten and NCAA’s first official fowling team before the next school year.
“Bringing fowling to the NCAA will be the most iconic thing Nebraska has ever done. Fowling combines the two activities synonymous with tailgating: football and cornhole,” Chancellor Green said during the announcement. “Look, if we do not find something that involves both being first and a football, we are done.”
When asked more about how the game is played, Chancellor Green offered up a scattered explanation that made fowling sound like football but with bowling pins and he ended it with, “trust me, it’s great, you’ll like it.”
The chancellor also added that they plan on using the fowling team to boost the university’s desirability to out of state students and reshape campus around the new team.
“When I say reshape everything, I mean we are literally going to rebuild campus. We are going to change campus culture to be centered around fowling. Fowling is the future. We plan on building a fowling rink in every building on campus from the College of Business to the Sheldon Art Museum; this is literally the best idea we have ever had.”
The estimated cost of undertaking this project is what the university called “do-able” and “we will have to sell East Campus.” In addition to this, Chancellor Green admitted that he isn’t sure about the entire rule set of fowling yet, but says that will be up to the NCAA.
