Sources within the Nebraska athletic department have confirmed recent rumors that the Washington Generals have been added to the 2015 Nebraska football schedule following the firing of Bo Pelini.
“With the coaching situation unsure for next season, we wanted to make sure we would have at least one guaranteed win,” said Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst. “This is a game we can win even if we hire a local junior high coach.”
After decades of providing sure basketball wins for the Harlem Globetrotters, the Generals have had to make some significant changes in preparation for the Nebraska game, their first time playing a football game.
“Once we buy some helmets we’ll really feel ready to go out there and compete,” said Generals head coach John Kelly. “I’ve been working really hard to get the guys to understand they don’t dribble the football, and I think we’ll be all ready by next fall.”
Though many college football experts expected backlash from the NCAA after this unique choice of opponent, the organization has given its approval to go forward with the scheduled game. Sources at the NCAA explained that its members could not penalize Nebraska for attempting to play the worst team in the country, as Michigan is not on the Cornhuskers’ 2015 schedule.
The game will be played on a yet unannounced Wednesday night, and television coverage will be carried on the Lifetime cable network.
Fans across the state are looking forward to Tommy Armstrong spinning the football on his finger and possibly passing it between his legs.
