Juicy J, DJ Paul entertain Bourbon audience

Teen angst filled the Bourbon last Sunday night where minors were ordered to sit in the balcony. The sold out show started at 8 p.m., but its main performer, Juicy J, didn’t take the stage until three hours later.

I had never seen the Bourbon so packed. Security was especially tight

Why this concert was for all ages is beyond me. I can only imagine a parent’s reaction to the opener who rapped about “pills, weed and pussy.”. While this show wasn’t my first choice in music, it did teach me to appreciate the variety of artistry presented on the Bourbon stage.

DJ Paul is Juicy J’s production partner, and it would have been half the show without him.. Without him, the show probably would have been Juicy J rapping over the hit songs he’s featured in, such as ”Dark Horse” by Katy Perry (which he did.) DJ Paul and the DJ who assisted the openers made sure to keep a beat while the rappers did most of the entertaining—jumping into the crowd, standing on the bar, etc.

“Who wants to get drunk with Juicy J?” asked Juicy J after he “got the story straight” and pronounced himself a millionaire. I couldn’t believe it. Juicy J is a millionaire, yet the ‘custom Juicy J double cup’ that came with the purchase of a VIP ticket was just two Styrofoam cups stacked on top of each other? I thought someone this pretentious would give out a little more bling. And…he did. He even teased the crowd with his gold chain, but of course ended up just throwing out a couple pairs of signed shoes instead. Go figure.

The next best thing to happen at this concert was in the moment Juicy J proclaimed, “Now, I’ve never seen a white girl that can twerk better than Miley Cyrus,” before inviting several screaming girls and one “lucky” guy on stage. But here’s the catch: they could only dance behind Juicy, like backup dancers in his music video. To no surprise, one girl got a little too excited before she was ordered to the back of the stage by security.

I can say that I saw a bare butt and a whole lot of lost dignity at this concert, but I can’t say I wasn’t entertained. I suppose at shows like these, that’s all that matters. However, given the amount of time Juicy J spent getting smashed, talking about himself and degrading women, only one thing is certain: there’s no way I could have been sober at the NEVER SOBER tour.
