The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives, and for students at UNL, it has brought many new routines. The biggest one is required saliva-based testing every 10 days, following CDC guidelines.
This week UNL has decided to change the routine by closing all testing locations after Wednesday. Students checking the “Safer Community” app can see for themselves that all locations are closed Thursday to Sunday, and then there are zero scheduled locations posted after.
Sophomore Jamie Churchill reported this news to us saying “This is bullshit. I just took a test yesterday and need one by Monday. What the hell do they want me to do? Get tested every two days? What a waste of resources.”
UNL has not responded directly to the issue, but an unnamed staff member has spoken about the policy. “Yeah, man. I heard one of my supervisors say that the administration thinks they are babying the students too much. They plan on us just “being adults and figuring it out” I guess.”
At this time, UNL has not released any information or new test times. Students will still have to test every 10 days to attend in-person classes. Speculation on campus is that this will cause the rest of the semester to be remote due to a lack of testing and care.
