Snowplow drivers save citizens from paying parking fines by plowing their cars off the road

After the blizzard on Monday, an announcement from Lincoln Police stating that officers will be enforcing the 24-hour parking ban. This “year-round” violation requires citizens to move their car within 24 hours to prevent being ticketed or towed. The special enforcement this week will be to allow plows to finish clearing the streets and prep for more snow this season.

Many citizens were outraged at this announcement on Twitter after it was posted, but one local man took the time to make a difference. Clarence Marcus, a contracted snowplow driver for the city, has taken to help make sure people do not get fined. He is using his time off duty to move cars off of the street by plowing them into yards and sidewalks across Lincoln.

We had a chance to speak with Marcus while he removed a headlight that got stuck in his plow. “I’m just trying to do what is right. My momma always told me to speak up for what you believe in, but I ain’t too good with words. So instead of speaking, I decided to do something about it.”

Marcus recruited a few other plows to help him get all the streets in Lincoln. We spoke to Steve Luca, a UNL student who had his car plowed by Marcus’ crew. “I am thankful that these guys moved my car. Because of COVID, I can barely afford rent, let alone a parking ticket. I would definitely have gotten one since the whole COVID thing and how bad the roads are. I mean it took them 3 days to plow my street and it somehow got worse.”

The crews are incredibly efficient and should be done within the first 24 hours of this enforcement. While interviewing Luca, Marcus and his team noticed my vehicle on the street and pushed it off the road. They are saying that any damages can be paid by the City of Lincoln Police Department.
