Lincoln residents are celebrating a hero dog that saved its owner from what appeared to be a mysterious noise.
On Friday, Feb. 23, Garrett Tilmen, a 27-year-old native Nebraskan, was saved by his dog, Hampton, after Hampton raised his head and barked while they were both lying on the couch together that evening.
“I was just watching TV and flipping through Tinder when Hampton barked out of nowhere with his ears raised. He then jumped off the couch and ran to the front window growling, and then came back a few seconds later,” Tilmen told reporters. “I didn’t even hear anything, but Hampton did. By the time I got to the window to see what was outside, nothing was there, and the scariest part is that this isn’t even the first time he’s saved me.”
Thilman began elaborating on the numerous occasions when Hampton saved him. In addition to those stories, he credits Hampton with his life.
“I don’t know where I’d be without that good boy. Without him, I don’t think I would ever have the courage to randomly look outside for possible intruders. Also, ever since I got Hampton, I have never once worried about my safety.”
Many credible scientific studies suggest that dogs are actually smarter than humans and they befriend humans in order to protect us from our naive and oblivious ways of life. So the next time you yell at your dog for barking while you’re wasting your life binge-watching “Grey’s Anatomy,” just remember that without them, you probably would be trying to fend off an intruder with a broomstick in your kitchen, because you never thought to spontaneously look outside.
