For centuries, people have fought countless battles over whether a divine power exists in our world and influences our everyday lives. Differences in opinions have led to the creation of numerous religions, with atheism on the rise in the past couple of decades. But the never-ending war on religion finally ended last Tuesday when Lance Swanson, a freshman mathematics major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, prayed before his calculus midterm exam and got an 82 on it.
“I was so shocked when I got my test score back,” said Swanson, in an interview with The DailyER. “I didn’t even realize we were having a test that day. I spent the entire night before playing Fortnite instead of studying, so I thought I was screwed. As the professor was handing the exams out, I decided to call on God for some help on the test. I’m not usually the one to pray, but I’ll be praying every day now thanks to that test score! God is good!”
Pastors in and around the Lincoln community reacted to the news of Swanson’s midterm score. “This is definitely the work of the hands of God,” said community pastor Jacob Hanson. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Lance was guided by God on his journey through his calculus midterm exam. It’s amazing the wonders that God can do, and all it takes is a simple prayer!”
Longtime Lincoln Atheists member Jarrod Nichols also reacted to the news of Lance Swanson. “Wow, that’s all the proof I need,” said Nichols. “No one on Earth could slack off to the extent Swanson did and get that high of a score on any midterm, let alone a calculus midterm. God is real, end of story.”
Members of the Newman Center Church announced that excerpts from Swanson’s test will be read aloud as holy scripture during services over the next month.
