Rappers are known for great music and meaningful lyrics to many. However, to succeed in the music industry and to have listeners, many rappers need interesting names to be known by. There are currently 72 rappers with the word Lil in their stage name, and there is now a 73rd.
Local hero, son of Herbie Husker, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s second-best mascot Lil’ Red has officially announced his career change into rap music. Under the stage name Lil’ Red, Lil’ Red has started releasing music on highly respected music site SoundCloud.
Lil’ Red found his interest in music after listening to musicians and rappers such as Lil Peep, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., XXXTentacion and Mac Miller. Lil’ Red hopes to follow in their footsteps and do everything they did.
Lil’ Red believes that he has the ability to become the next big star in the mumble rap scene. When The DailyER asked the reasoning behind choosing mumble rap, Lil’ Red did not comment. He just stared silently smiling with no emotion in his soulless black eyes.
In a public statement released on his official Instagram account, Lil’ Red stated that he feels “like I am not supported by the university in my current situation and just want to do more. I feel like I have become merely a second-rate mascot and put in the background.”
Neither the university nor Herbie Husker issued a reply to the statement.
Lil’ Red will release his debut album “Huskin No More,” featuring the Herbie Husker diss track, “Ugly ass cowboy hat,” on October 25th.
