After spending nearly the entire week celebrating Coach Krzyzewski’s record-breaking 903rd victory, many Duke fans began to reminisce about the old days when the coach used to yell brutal obscenities at every single person on the basketball court.
“It didn’t matter who we were playing or who was in the stands. Coach K used to call every single person a ‘motherfucker’ or tell them to ‘shut the fuck up,'” avid Duke fan, and N.C. State alum Braden Jones said.
“But ever since he’s become a grandfather, he’s really toned it down. He’ll say things like ‘gosh darn it,’ or just ‘shut up.’ It’s really disappointing.”
Duke fans seemed to agree, stating that while they’ll always love him, they definitely preferred the younger, feistier Coach K to the more mellow version they have now.
“It used to be that I could show up drunk to a game and tell the ref to shove it up his ass, and Coach K would turn around, look me in the eye and give me a thumbs up. But these days he looks in the stands and gives me a thumbs down,” Duke fan Stanley Moore said.
“Have you ever gotten a thumbs down from Coach K? It eats away at you.”
Many fans are still holding out hope that they’ll see another one of his famous verbal assaults before he retires.
“This is still the same coach that said ‘fuck you, Dean’ to Dean Smith’s face. A man like that can’t change,” Jones said.
“One of these days, someone will provoke him into a glorious tirade of obscenities. Here’s hoping it’s directed at Roy Williams.”
