Teen cannot wait to vote for parent’s favorite candidate

Election season is in full swing, and for freshman secondary education major Ryan Mayer it is the most exciting time of his life.

“All of my life, I have been waiting for my chance to make a difference in the country that I live in,” Mayer said. “This is the first election that I have been able to participate in, and I’m ready to hit the polls!”

In a time where young people seem more disillusioned with the American political system than ever, Mayer’s enthusiasm is a breath of fresh air.

“I just think it’s disappointing to see a whole generation not care,” Mayer continued. “As the future of the country, we need to be active right now.”

Mayer is known by his friends as being “very concerned” with the issues facing the country, taking things “way too far” at times, according to his roommate Trevor Spath.

“Ryan isn’t really that smart about things, it’s all just crap his dad says,” Spath said.

When asked about the influence his father has on his political beliefs, Mayer was defensive.

“I just like to discuss things with my dad; he knows a lot about politics,” Mayer said. “It just so happens that our political beliefs line up perfectly.”

Mayer went on to say that it wasn’t just the presidential election in his sights. “I vote the same as my dad for every election,” Mayer reported. “It’s just my way of making a difference in the world.”

In his Ben Carson 2016 shirt, Mayer said he is ready to get going with a new, politically active lifestyle.

“So what if my dad drives me to the polls,” Mayer asked. “It’s not like he is inside of my brain.”
